Ribana : It has a grained-looking appearance because of the knit and purl stitches that creates a height difference. it is highly stretchy to the width. The surface and qualities of the fabric vary according to the number of the knit and purl stitches. Rib knitted fabrics are mostly used in the collar and cuffs of knitwear, at the hems, waists and within the leg hems of tracksuits and in underwear (undershirts, panties etc.) and formfitting tops.
Single jersey : It is a type of knit usually made from cotton or similar fibers and composed of single yarn. It has one flat side and one piled side. It’s a stretchy textile surface and tends to the edge folds and wale spirality. If a loop breaks at one point, the entire stitch may unravel. This textile surface can be used in the form of wide flat form and in the tube shape. It is used in the production of undershirts, panties and pelt/coats.
Satin : It is a shiny fabric made from cotton. Thin, natural or art/floral yarns and silk yarns are used in satin fabrics. The texture is single-sided. It has a shiny surface and a dull back. The yarn quality of the sides may be different. It is a soft, loose fabric. Satin fabrics are used in the night gowns, morning gowns, petticoats, fancy bra and panties.
Silk : The silk made from the cocoon of silk worm is surely an elegant fabric. The width of the yams, the level of moisture, resrstance and elasticity play a crucial role in the value of silk. It is used in the night gowns, morning gowns, petticoats, fancy bra-panties set. The main qualities of it are strength, softness, brightness and elasticity. It creases and absorbs moisture, so it does not sweat. it is sensitive to heat, sweat and light. Even the water drops leave stains on silk. It should be ironed at medium temperature when it is damp.
Velvet : it has one flat side and the other one is covered with tuft. It is usually used in the production of fancy dresses. However, it has begun to be used in fancy undenivear as well.
Lace : It is a textile surface made from lace yarn and used for embellishment. It can be machine-made or hand-made. There are various lace types such as woven lace, embroidered lace, bobbin lace and knitted lace. lt’s widely used in undershirts, panties, bra, night gowns and morning gowns.
Polyester : It’s produced from coal tar or petroleum products. Polyester fibers are highly resistant to dryness and wetness. Polyester is also known as tery/ene, dacron and trevira. It is bacteria resistant and has a light and long-lasting texture. It does not crease because of its elastic structure. It gives good results when blended with natural fibers. All kinds of clothing can be made from polyester fibers. It can be used alone or blended with fibers such as wool, cotton and linen. It is also used in various fabrics and textures such as tulle, taffeta, satin and organza. This kind of fabric has a great influence on today’s underwear fashion.
Micro modal : The fabrics produced from natural materials are especially preferred in the production of underwear today. Micro modal underwear is one of them. Modal is a kind of yarn produced from the fibers of beech tree. Although it looks alike the synthetic materials, micro modal undenrvear is 100% natural and healthy. It is an ultralight and firm material that can be recycled. Micro modal underwear provides a softer clothing and comfort than cotton and it is easily washed even at low temperatures.
Cotton :
* it breathes,
* It does not sweat,
*It is non-allergic,
* Its maintenance is difficult, cleaning instructions should be fol/o wed
* It creases faster,
* It is difficult to iron it.
Cotton is a commonly used natural fiber. It grows in a poll. Chemical/y, cotton fiber consists of cotton wax and pure cellulose containing cotton oil in small quantities. The features such as absorbency, wetness resistance, softness and firmness distinguish cotton from other fabrics. Cotton absorbs more moisture than wool. It evaporates sweat and provides comfort especially in hot conditions, so it is highly preferred in underwear and baby dresses. It is one of the most used raw materials by the underwear manufacturers. Cotton yarn fabric shaped in the skilled hands is also favored by consumers. it can be washed in warm water and it creases. It can be dried by hanging. Creases are removed easily when it is damp, however it should be ironed with steam iron when it is dry. The cotton fabric blended with synthetic is less creased and ironed more easily. The drying of the cotton fabrics takes longer time than synthetic fabrics such as polyester, because natural fibers like cotton are more absorbent than the synthetic ones.
Cellulose : It is an organic maten’al produced by plants through synthesis. Cotton that retains the air flow gives insulation property to cotton fabric. the air quantity restrained by cotton is less than the quantity restrained by wool and the retention of cotton is moderate. It has less elasticity and strong and durable structure.
Linen : Linen that is a kind of fiber such as jute, hemp and sisal is made from the body of a plant named linum usitatissium. Many different processes required during the spinning and weaving and difficulties due to non-elasticity make the linen less economic than cotton. linen fabrics are highly durable and absorbent. They made from slippery linen fibers do not restrain the airflow, so it makes you feel fresh. It has a ventilation effect because it absorbs moisture. linen yarn is mostly used in weaving than knitting because of its firm quality. The natural linen creasing very easily should be ironed when it is damp. Wool: It is a protein fiber with high tortuosity and it is obtained from sheep. The thinness of the fiber is important in terms of the yarn and fabric quality. The fibers that are thin and long give you a thinner and longer fabric. The thinness of wool fibers is measured in microns (1 micron: one thousandth of a millimeter). lts thinness, quality and features vary according to the type of sheep. Woolen fabrics are soft, elastic and highly hygroscopic. Wool fiber consists of engaged flakes going in the same direction. The air retrained in the fiber gives an isolation property to the fabric. Dry wool can absorb moisture up to 40-50% of its own weight but wetness is not felt and it restrains the heat. These products are used as underwear in winter by elders.
Cashmere : It is a kind of silky wool made from the second layer of goats living in China, lndia and Mongolia plateaus. Maximum 50 grams of cashmere is obtained from a goat per year; thus, it is a valuable raw material Although it is similar to wool with many qualities; the cashmere is thinner, brighter and softer. It is used in luxurious and soft underwear with good drape. It prevents sweating and cold by balancing the body heat.
Nylon : It is a synthetic fiber and produced in the laboratories. It has the capability of high elongation so; it is able to retract fully and quickly at break. It provides the fabrics with stretching feature and increases the durability. It can stretch in length and width. It was used to provide control at first; however, it is also used to provide a beautiful drape now. Especially its fonnfitting structure has attracted the manufacturers’ attention.
